Dredging of the Freeport of Monrovia in Liberia, commenced on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, according to port authorities.
Bigger vessels have been finding it difficult to dock at the Freeport of Monrovia over the years due to lack of capacity to accommodate them.
Upon the completion of the dredging project, bigger vessels will now begin to dock successfully at the Freeport of Monrovia.
Port officials say the dredging exercise will take three weeks. They say there was delay in the commencement of the exercise due to the long period of rain in Liberia.
The dredging contract according to the officials, is being carried out by the third largest dredging company in the world. They did not elaborate.
