The controversial Lonestarcell/MTN mobile phone company based in Liberia is said to be in crisis with credible information suggesting the resignation of its hardworking Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Insiders at the mobilephone company say Ms. Uche Ofodile is leaving Lonestarcell/MTN due to lack of cooperation from some members of the board.
Lonestarcell was formed by conies of now war crimes convict, former Liberian President Charles Taylor. Benoni Urey who was the Maritime boss under Charels Taylor and Emmanuel Shaw who was a special aide to Taylor are the main organizers of the phone company, eventhough, differenct stories of direct Charles Taylor connection continued to unraval before MTN International bought some of its shares in controversial faction.
Experts told this medium that Uche joined the company few years ago at a time it was loosing revenues.
Known for harnessing the power of people to move businesses forward, our sources said Uche injected enthusiasm and accountability into an organization which was financially in trouble.
Our sources continued that employees were shocked when the CEO announced recently that she is parting ways with the Lonestarcell/MTN.
Ms. Uche is a senior business leader with extensive expertise in building businesses in emerging markets. With over 10 years in CEO, CMO, and CCO roles, she has been the driving force behind transformative change in blue-chip multinational companies.
An early career in marketing, advertising, and public relations gave Uche a diverse foundation in the automotive, consulting, higher education, and broadcasting industries.
In 2002, Uche accepted her first position in Africa as a Corporate Brand Manager. This was the first step on a path that led to a meteoric rise to senior leadership positions with some of the continent’s fastest-growing companies.
One of her hallmark achievements is the transformation of Vodafone Ghana from a struggling business, with deteriorating market share, into the country’s #2 telecommunications provider.
As Chief Marketing Officer, Uche was instrumental in delivering 3 consecutive years of double-digit revenue growth, resulting in significant awards such as “Telecommunications Company of the Year,” “Best Telecom Brand,” and “Most Admired Brand.”
But her reign at the Lonestarcell/MTN has been a difficult one, said our sources, citing continued interference from some memebrs of the board.
The Board of Lonestar Cell MTN was originally chaired by Mr. Benoni Urey, but was forced to relinguish that post to his yougest daughter, Danielle, according to information.
Our sources said Urey’s role as an active politician and at the sametime chair of the board of the mobilephone company was dragging the image of the firm in the mud and was therefore pressed to resign, thus naming his dauther to replace him.
Under difficult circumstances, sources said Uche took charge as CEO and lifted it from falling. But it appears things are taking a downward trend again at the entity thereby forcing the experienced Nigerian business manager to quit. All efforts made to contact the company failed.
